Powering the Future with Solar Innovation Newtown Bearing Company invests in renewable energy to transform its Telford headquarters. Sustainability is no longer a future ambition for businesses, it is a present- day responsibility. Leading the way in environmental innovation, Newtown has taken a major step toward reducing its carbon footprint through the installation of a high-performance solar energy system at its two sites in Telford. The newly installed solar PV system boasts an impressive capacity of 70.36KWp, meaning it can generate approximately 45KW of electricity every hour under optimal conditions. Designed specifically to maximise efficiency, the systems have been strategically positioned on southeast-facing roofs to optimise solar gain while minimising the effects of shading throughout the day. Energy production estimates indicate that the system will generate around 63,000KW of electricity annually. Of this total, approximately 43,000 units will be used directly by Newtown to power its modern operational headquarters and 100,000 sq ft warehouse facilities, significantly reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. The remaining 13,000 units will be exported back to the national grid, contributing clean, renewable energy to the wider community. The environmental impact of the project is equally significant. Each year, the solar installations are expected to prevent the release of around 16 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, while offsetting approximately 44% of the company’s overall electricity consumption. These figures underline the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices and environmental responsibility. Looking ahead, the long-term benefits of the investment become even more remarkable. Over the projected 25-year lifespan of the solar panels, Newtown estimates that the system will achieve environmental savings equivalent to avoiding 485,000 kilometres of vehicle travel, eliminating the impact of 347 long-haul flights, and effectively planting 3,119 trees. As businesses across the UK continue to seek greener, more efficient ways of operating, Newtown’s renewable energy initiative demonstrates how practical sustainability measures can deliver both environmental and operational benefits. By investing in clean energy infrastructure today, the company is not only reducing costs and emissions but also helping to build a more sustainable future for generations to come. Further strengthening its commitment to environmental sustainability, Newtown Bearing Company is also preparing to install electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at its head office site. The introduction of EV charging infrastructure will support the transition to cleaner transportation by encouraging the use of electric vehicles among employees, visitors, and future fleet operations. By combining renewable solar energy generation with sustainable transport solutions, Newtown continues to invest in practical initiatives that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and contribute to a greener future. This next phase of development reinforces the company’s long-term vision of creating a more environmentally responsible and sustainable business for years to come.
